St. Vincent School follows the curriculum guidelines set forth by the Archdiocese of Los Angeles. This includes the Common Core State Standards for math and language arts, the state standards for science and social studies, and the diocesan religion standards. Again, St. Vincent School follows the archdiocesan mandate for the standardized tests by using the STAR Reading, Math, and Early Literacy assessments. These assessments are taken online at least four times each year and are used to measure growth and to identify particular strengths and areas for growth for the school as well as for individual students.
The instruction at St. Vincent School is designed to provide students with multiple, scaffolded opportunities to demonstrate mastery each lesson. Teachers provide instruction, but a lot of the work in the class involves students working collaboratively to manipulate content in order to more deeply understand the information. This allows teachers to differentiate their instruction to best meet the needs of all of the students.
St. Vincent School is currently in the process of designing new Core Values / Student Learning Expectations which will truly reflect the mission of the school and which can be measured for growth and achievement throughout a student’s time with us.
